The new season rankings, which take effect Sept. 28, show TV homes grew by 1.6 million. There were four changes among the top 20 markets, with Phoenix and Orlando, Fla., each moving up a slot. The biggest mover was Lima, Ohio, which climbed 12 spots, from 199 to 187.

Breaking a two-year trend in which total U.S. television households declined, the just-released Nielsen DMA rankings for the 2013-14 season show an uptick of 1,637,050 for a total of 115,810,740 homes.

The rankings themselves had a number of ups and downs, with 99 markets changing position, and with four changes in the top 20 markets.

Phoenix and Seattle swapped spots, with Phoenix now No. 12 and Seattle now No. 13. Also flipping were Orlando, Fla. (formerly 19, now 18), and Cleveland (from 18 to 19).

The biggest mover was Lima, Ohio, which climbed 12 spots, from 199 to 187. Minot-Bismarck, N.D., moved up 6 slots, from 151 to 146, while Austin, Texas, jumped 5 places, from 45 to 40, as did Panama City, Fla. (from 159 to 154).

Moving up 3 slots was Charleston, S.C., from 98 to 95.

No market declined more than 3 slots, with Youngstown, Ohio, dropping from 110 to 113; Erie, Pa., slipping from 146 to 149; Joplin, Mo., landing at 152, down from 149; and Dothan, Ala., dropping from 169 to 172.

Well, I guess word is getting out about Lima, Ohio. I hope overcrowding doesn’t become a problem there.
