TVN To Explore How To Make Money With 3.0

The conference, to be held Nov. 9-10 at NAB Show New York, will offer broadcasters, investors and financial analysts a high-level look at the ROI in launching the new, advanced transmission standard.

TVNewsCheck will host a conference to explore the business potential of ATSC 3.0, a new, more powerful broadcast television transmission standard now under consideration by the FCC.

“TV2020: Monetizing ATSC 3.0” will take place Nov. 9-10 at New York’s Javits Convention Center during NAB Show New York.

“Today, 3.0 is a technology,” said TVNewsCheck Editor Harry A. Jessell. “This conference will ask whether it is also a business, whether it is worth the significant investment it will take to implement it.

“The conference will go a long way toward answering these questions for broadcasters, technology suppliers, investors, researchers, advertisers and financial analysts — anybody with a stake in the oldest and still most-watched TV medium.”

Broadcasters and consumer electronics manufacturers have been developing the new standard for the past several years under the aegis of the Advanced Television Systems Committee.

“Proponents claim that it will supercharge TV broadcasting, enabling another great leap in picture and audio quality, greatly improving reception in homes, extending services to smartphones and creating opportunities like datacasting, targeted advertising and over-the-air skinny bundles for pay,” Jessell said.
