TVN To Honor Cavell Mertz’s Hutter Cavell

Lucinda Hutter Cavell, senior engineer and practice manager at Cavell Mertz & Associates, has been selected to receive TVNewsCheck’s fifth annual Women in Technology Leadership Award, it was announced today by Kathy Haley, publisher and managing partner of NewsCheck Media. The award will be presented during the NAB Show on April 14 at 6 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Hutter Cavell, who has held engineering management posts at ABC News, NBC News, Fox Entertainment, Fox Television Stations, Gannett and the former Hearst Argyle Television, has been creating, implementing and directing business strategies across multiple platforms for 30 years.

Starting in 2004, she headed the engineering and project management aspects of the multi-billion dollar Sprint Nextel program to replace and upgrade all 2 GHz ENG and fixed microwave equipment throughout the United States and its territories. Hutter Cavell joined Cavell Mertz & Associates in 2010, focusing on station and engineering management consulting, microwave systems and central master control system design.

The recipient of three Emmy Awards for Technical Innovation and the 2007 Female Broadcast Engineer of the Year Award from the Alliance for Women in Media and the Society of Broadcast Engineers, Hutter Cavell is known for her expertise in television station workflow, facility planning, multi-stream and multicasting design and TV due diligence.

“When it comes to broadcast TV engineering, few executives have the experience, accolades and reputation that Cindy Hutter Cavell has gained,” Haley says. “She is a role model, not just for women, but also for the many engineers working in a rapidly changing broadcast TV industry. We could not be happier, in a year in which TVNewsCheck received a record number of nominations for its Women in Technology Awards Program, to be presenting our top honor to Cindy Hutter Cavell.”

TVNewsCheck’s Women in Technology Awards program recognizes women who have contributed significantly toward advancing their industry technologically. It supports the NAB Educational Foundation’s Technology Apprenticeship Program, which places graduating engineers who are women or people of color in industry internships.
