‘Veep’ mascot racing Nats presidents

It’s the job of vice presidents to defer to their commander-in-chief bosses — unless you’re Selina Meyer.

Meyer is the fictional vice president on HBO’s “Veep,” played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who is perennially disgruntled at her second-tier status, and a mascot version of her character will race against the Washington Nationals’ mascot presidents — Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Taft and Roosevelt — on Tuesday at Nationals Park.

The “Presidents Race” is a promotional event that takes place at every Washington Nationals home game during the fourth inning.

The move is timed as a promotion for the second season of “Veep,” which begins April 14.

The Nationals say that this is the first time a television character has raced against the mascots.
