WAGA Atlanta To Debut New Set On Monday

Fox-owned WAGA Atlanta (DMA 9) will unveil a new set for its morning show at 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11.

Created by Devlin Design Group with flexibility and interaction as the primary goals, the new set will feature:

  • More than 46 monitors used across the set.
  • A massive 9×3 storytelling monitor wall with a 2×3 portion that physically rotates to allow unique showcasing abilities.
  • An interactive media pod that connects an Accuweather touchscreen to the storytelling wall. It allows the talent to be in control of content — such as social media sites, maps, etc. — and share in the stories with viewers.
  • A multi-position anchor desk that can be physically rotated to change the display technology that is behind the talent. This will allow the show to better showcase content in different circumstances.
  • Other moveable pieces (couch, weather station, tables). Nearly all pieces of the set can be moved in and out of different locations to allow greater flexibility.
  • A complete change to energy efficient LED lighting.
  • An 80-inch Accuweather touchscreen that can use the Accuweather apps to interact with content and information as it is coming into the station.

According to Devlin, what sets this design apart “is the innovative pivoting storytelling wall. Here’s how it works: A portion of the LED video wall positions itself at a 90 degree angle from the rest of the video wall to allow the reporter or talent to set up their story, much like the opening of a book cover.

“After the initial story setup, the intro section of the video wall pivots mechanically and then blends back into the main video wall and becomes part of the continuing story. The storyteller now has the option to share their story while walking along the larger storytelling wall.

“The video wall’s limitless ability to change content and background allows the storyteller to stop and use the specific content changes in the graphics wall to visually punctuate the story.”
