WAGA Atlanta Unveils Storm Chaser

Fox O&O WAGA Atlanta (DMA 9) has introduced the Fox 5 Storm Chaser, a complete mobile weather lab and live TV production vehicle. The Fox 5 Storm Chaser is equipped with an on-board weather center and radar tracking system.

The Fox 5 Storm Chaser features an on-board weather center and storm tracking system. The Chaser uses live streaming technology that allows it to transmit live storm chase pictures on the move and deliver live pictures of developing storms. Utilizing two dash-mounted live cameras, the Chaser will also feature a mobile version of the Fox 5 live VIPIR radar, enabling it to pinpoint areas of damaging wind shear and provide instant warnings of developing storms and tornadoes.

Built by Accelerated Media Technologies, the Fox 5 Storm Chaser incorporates two live lipstick cameras, enabling the station to simultaneously show both weather images and live up-to-the-minute updates from the station’s meteorologists.

In addition to traditional microwave transmission, the Fox 5 Storm Chaser features an on-board TVU Networks backpack, which uses multiple air cards combined with new amplifying technology to produce high-quality TV pictures.
