Walsh To Head Nexstar Local Content Push

Former news director-photojournalist-producer Jerry Walsh is charged with creating cross-platform content for the group’s stations, 35 community websites and mobile applications.-

Nexstar Broadcasting Group today promoted Jerry Walsh to the position of director of local content development, a new position the company says will help it expand its development of local cross-platform content for its on-air and digital platforms. Walsh will report directly to Blake Russell, Nexstar’s SVP station operations.

In his new role, Walsh will be working across the Nexstar organization with station news directors and the company’s e-Media teams to create local content that “enhances the client and viewer experience.”

Nexstar said Walsh “has a track record of recognizing opportunities to showcase broadcast content in new mediums such as online and mobile applications.” Over the past year, he coordinated Nexstar’s Super Bowl and election coverage for all three screens — mobile, online and on-air — as well as social media platforms. In addition, he played a major role earlier this year in the news operation launched by Nexstar in Utica, N.Y.

Commenting on the appointment, Russell, said: “Jerry’s ability to leverage the value of local content creation across multiple platforms in a manner that elevates its relevance to on-air, online and mobile audiences has proven to be of value to our viewers and advertisers alike. He excels at driving our stations to create content that can be shared on a regional or group-wide level and we are confident his management, leadership and track record of showcasing local content will complement our company-wide initiative to expand our creation and development of unique local content.”

WOW, I’m shocked the nexstar is working on content… a group that usually focuses on revenue only and never results for the client. at least that’s my impression of the group.
