WBIR Taps David Hunt As President-GM

The Tegna sports exec will replace the retiring Jeff Lee as head of the group’s NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tenn.

 

Tegna today named David Hunt president and general manager of its NBC affiliate WBIR Knoxville, Tenn. (DMA 62). Hunt had been director of local sports strategy at Tegna Media since 2013. He succeeds Jeff Lee, who is retiring at the end of the year.

“David’s experience, creativity and innovative spirit have consistently put Tegna Media at a competitive advantage and we look forward to him bringing that approach to WBIR,” said Lynn Beall, EVP-COO, Tegna Media.

As director of local sports strategy at Tegna Media, Hunt worked across the company to develop strong execution strategies around unique and innovative sports content across all platforms. He oversaw Tegna Media’s coordination of the Olympics and Super Bowl as well as several non-sports initiatives that included pilot programming and product testing.

Hunt started his broadcast career at KUSA Denver in 1991 as a news editor. He later became executive producer of sports and weather.

Hunt graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a double major in economics and psychology.
