WBRC Birmingham To Host Mayoral Debate

The hour-long forum will air next Tuesday at 7-8 p.m. and will also be livestreamed on WBRC’s digital properties including WBRC.com, the WBRC FOX6 News app, Roku/Amazon and Facebook.

Fox-owned WBRC Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 45), will host a televised mayoral debate for candidates vying to be Birmingham mayor. Financial support for the debate is being provided, in part, by AARP Alabama.

The debate will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. It will air on WBRC and be livestreamed on WBRC’s digital properties including WBRC.com, the WBRC FOX6 News app, Roku/Amazon and Facebook.

“AARP Alabama is proud to co-sponsor this important mayoral candidate forum in the city of Birmingham,” said Candi Williams, state director of AARP Alabama. “AARP has a history of nonpartisan voter engagement that goes back more than fifty years. This event is part of that longstanding tradition for us.”

The top five candidates in a poll commissioned by WBRC are invited to debate and answer a variety of questions. The debate will be moderated by Jonathan Hardison, WBRC anchor-reporter.

“We are happy to provide this public service to our viewers and voters,” said Shannon Isbell, WBRC news director. “It is a great opportunity for the candidates to share their plans for our great city.
