WCAU Names Drew Smith South Jersey Reporter

NBC-owned WCAU Philadelphia (DMA 4) today said Drew Smith will be joining Ted Greenberg and Cydney Long on the station’s South Jersey team of reporters, marking an expansion of resources in Atlantic and Cape May Counties. His first day will be March 23.

Smith joins WCAU from CBS affiliate WSPA Spartanburg, S.C., where he was the lead night side reporter. His work has included investigations that have exposed fraud, misconduct and negligence within the government and throughout the community. In 2014, he was named South Carolina’s Reporter of the Year by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association.

Prior to WSPA, Smith worked at WBTW Myrtle Beach, S.C., and WFMY Greensboro, N.C.

Smith is a graduate of Elon University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast news journalism.

Since NBC40 out of Atlantic City is gone, some station needed to increase its presence in this region.

WCAU is doing this in a attempt to lure the former NBC40 (WMGM) news viewers to their station’s newscasts. You have to ask yourself this: Are the good people in Atlantic City in a forgiving mood? WMGM no longer has any newscasts now that they run ‘Soul Of The South.’ Their other station, WACP, is an Independent and doesn’t do newscasts, either. The people that used to work for NBC40 News are trying to find a LPTV station that they can do their newscasts on; they rather do that than work for WCAU!
