WCAU Philadelphia Adds Two Reporters
NBC-owned WCAU Philadelphia (DMA 4) on Monday added two new journalists.
Beginning Sept. 22, Randy Gyllenhaal will report from the station’s Lehigh Valley bureau, with Mitch Blacher joining the NBC10 Investigators on Oct. 1.
Gyllenhaal joins from WPBF West Palm Beach, Fla., where he has been a reporter since 2011. Prior to WPBF, he was with WPTZ Burlington, Vt. He has received numerous national awards for his reporting, including from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press. He attended Elon University in North Carolina, where he interned for ABC World News.
Emmy-award winning reporter Mitch Blacher joins WCAU from KGTV San Diego, where he has been an investigative reporter since 2009. While there, Blacher exposed major administrative scandals in the San Diego mayor’s office, assault and cover-ups inside the San Diego Police Department and safety violations inside the largest nuclear power plant in Southern California.
Prior to San Diego, Blacher was an investigative reporter in Albuquerque, N.M., and held reporter and anchor positions in Fort Wayne and Terre Haute, both Ind. He attended Indiana University and holds a degree in journalism.
Blacher’s hire is the latest commitment WCAU has made to boost its investigative reporting in recent months. Blacher joins investigative producer Jim O’Donnell who joined the station in August and investigative reporter Harry Hairston.
