WCAU To Air ACC Football On Subchannel

The deal with Raycom Sports and the ACC Network makes the NBC O&O's NBC Philadelphia Nonstop the market's only TV station to air ACC football.

NBC O&L WCAU Philadelphia (DMA 4) today announced it has reached a deal with Raycom Sports/The ACC Network to air all 13 regular season ACC football games on NBC Philadelphia Nonstop, one of the station’s subchannels. The broadcasts will include the noon pregame shows followed immediately by the games, which kick off at 12:30 p.m.

The season starts Saturday, Sept. 3, with Appalachian State taking on Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Other confirmed games include Rutgers at North Carolina on Sept. 10 and Duke at Boston College on Sept. 17. Remaining matchups will be determined as the season progresses.

“The schools of the Atlantic Coast Conference have a history of great rivalries,” said Dennis Bianchi, president-GM of WCAU. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer this exciting sports programming season to local college football fans.”

Well DUH, isn’t that what the spectrum afforded in the DTV technical standards was meant to accomplish? USEFUL other program material intended for viewers!! Good decision, WCAU! Let’s see more of this done by other stations. I recall a few years ago WISH Indianapolis aired all four regional CBS feeds during March Madness on their then-companion DTV channel.
