WCVB Adds Meteorologist, Reporter Retiring

Hearst Television’s ABC affiliate WCVB  Boston (DMA7) announced today that Danielle Vollmar has its StormTeam 5 as meteorologist for the weekend morning EyeOpener newscasts, while longtime reporter Amalia Barreda will retire at the end of June after 21 years. “Amalia Barreda has covered it all for WCVB-TV, including a wide variety of stories which greatly impacted our community,” said WCVB-TV President Bill Fine.

Vollmar comes to Boston from KDAF Dallas. Previously, she worked for KOKH Oklahoma City where she reported on a wide range of weather stories, from droughts to tornadoes and most specifically, the Oklahoma City Christmas Eve Blizzard of 2009.

Prior to her position at KOKH, Vollmar was the noon and early evening meteorologist at WBOC Salisbury, Md. Vollmar started her broadcast career as a fill-in weather anchor at WENY Elmira, N.Y., while was still finishing her atmospheric sciences degree from Cornell University.
