WCVB Boston Adding Two Newscasts

Beginning Jan. 11, the Hearst ABC affiliate will introduce 4:30 and 7 p.m. broadcasts, moving The Ellen DeGenerous Show and Inside Edition to earlier timeslots.

Hearst-owned ABC affiliate WCVB Boston (DMA 8) is kicking off the New Year with the launch of an expanded weeknight newscast schedule.

On Monday, Jan. 11, WCVB NewsCenter 5 will debut new 4:30 and 7 p.m. newscasts, with the latter being the only local broadcast TV news program in the Boston market at that time, it says.

The 4:30 newscast will be anchored by Ed Harding and will be a “faster-paced look at news headlines,” the station says.  The 7 p.m. newscast will be a more in-depth look at the day’s news, anchored by Ed Harding and Heather Unruh, and will be followed by WCVB’s Chronicle, which it says is the nation’s longest running local news magazine.

With this expanded schedule, WCVB will provide 36 hours a week of local news coverage.
