WCVB Boston Names New 5 P.M. Anchors

Hearst Television’s ABC affiliate WCVB Boston (DMA 7), has tapped J.C. Monahan and Phil Lipof to co-anchor its weekday NewsCenter 5 at 5:00. The pair have been co-anchoring the newscast since the first of the year upon Lipof’s arrival, but now officially assume their roles on a permanent basis.

Monahan will continue to split her duties between NewsCenter 5 and co-anchoring Chronicle, WCVB’s nightly newsmagazine. She joined Chronicle in May 2013 as co-host alongside Anthony Everett.

Monahan was previously the meteorologist for the weekday editions of WCVB’s The EyeOpener and Midday newscasts, having joined the station from New England Cable News in 2001. During her years as a meteorologist, Monahan appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America as a guest meteorologist.

Lipof joined WCVB in December 2013 from WABC New York, where he anchored the weekend morning news and reported for seven years. Before his tenure at WABC, Lipof worked in the Boston market as a weekend anchor and launched his career in journalism as an intern at WCVB.
