WCVB Rejects Claims By Senate Hopeful Lynch

BOSTON (AP) — The head of WCVB-TV Boston says U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch relied on “erroneous assumptions” when announced that he won’t run ads for his U.S. Senate campaign on the TV station in the Boston market because of an ongoing contract dispute between that station and some union employees.

The Boston Democrat said in a letter to the station Friday that he couldn’t advertise on WCVB while members of IBEW Local 1228 have been working without a new contract for nearly two years. The union represents dozens of camera operators, editors and technicians at the station.

WCVB President Bill Fine says in a letter to workers that “there is no ‘contract dispute’ with the IBEW.”

He says the two sides reached several tentative agreements Monday and he hopes Lynch will let them strike a deal “free from outside influence.”
