WDIV Slots Primetime Special On Kenya Relief

Graham Holdings NBC affiliate WDIV Detroit (DMA 12) will present an hour-long primetime special chronicling a team of surgeons and nurses from metro Detroit who go to Kenya to provide medical care for hundreds of Kenyans.

Care & Hope: Proud Detroit Exports will be hosted by WDIV health reporter Dr. Frank McGeorge. It follows a young orphan named Enoch as he meets the strangers from Detroit, receives life-saving surgery and bids them a heartwarming goodbye. It provides a glimpse into the challenges and obstacles of trying to provide medical care in extremely impoverished conditions. Many of the people they treat have waited years to see a doctor.

Why do these medical professionals do it and how does it change them? Care & Hope: Proud Detroit Exports answers those questions and gives viewers a raw look at the lives and the amazing strength of the people in this small town just outside of Migori, Kenya.

“It’s not just about doctors traveling to Kenya, the entire experience reinforced valuable life lessons for me. Without a doubt, viewers will take something personal away from these stories,” McGeorge said.

He followed a team from Henry Ford Health System, University of Michigan Health System, and Beaumont Health System to work with Kenya Relief (www.kenyarelief.org).
