WFOX To Debut 6 And 6:30 News

The Cox Jacksonville, Fla., Fox station will add an hour of news on Jan. 11 with the first half hour also airing on CBS affiliate WJAX.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 11, Cox Media Group’s Fox affiliate WFOX Jacksonville, Fla. (DMA 47), is expanding its news operation.

Starting at 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, Action News Jax will air news simultaneously on both WFOX and bayshore television’s CBS affiliate WJAX, with which Cox has a joint sales agreement. Then at 6:30, viewers can get the day’s top stories, breaking news and weather on WFOX, while on WJAX, viewers will continue to watch the CBS Evening News.

“As people get home from work, we think it’s important to be there for them so they can catch up on local news from their community,” said Jim Zerwekh, VP-GM of WFOX and WJAX. “Every day we’re living up to our news brand of ‘Local Coverage You Can Count On.’ ”

“We’re adding more resources in order to better cover the expanded newscasts so that we can continue to give viewers the best, most complete coverage of news in the Jacksonville market,” said Bob Longo, the stations’ news director.

Meh even more news without substance. The only thing good about “Action News” is meteorologist Mike Buresh, even though the format forces him to do the weather at 100 mph.
