DMA 68: GREEN BAY, WI

WFRV To Host Primetime Congressional Debate

Nexstar-owned WFRV Green Bay, Wis. (DMA 68) will present a live televised debate between the candidates seeking to represent Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives — Republican Mike Gallagher and Democrat Tom Nelson.

This open seat in the 8th District is due to Congressman Reid Ribble’s decision not to seek reelection. The moderator will be WFRV anchor Tom Zalaski. In addition to anchoring the station’s 5, 6, and 10 p.m. news at WFRV, Zalaski also hosts Newsmaker Sunday, where both candidates have appeared previously.

WFRV VP-GM Mike Smith said: “Presenting a primetime debate on a CBS station such as this is critical to our local mission here at WFRV. We’re proud our team was able to put together a proposed debate that both candidates are on board with.”

WFRV News Director Kevin Osgood, who will be the debate’s executive producer said: “This is an opportunity for the voters to hear policy ideas directly from the candidates so they can understand the differences between them and make a more informed choice.”

The hour-long debate will be on Monday, Oct. 17. It will begin at 9 p.m. and be broadcast live on WFRV and streamed on the station’s website WeAreGreenBay.com. WHBY-AM will also simulcast the debate.
