WFXT Boston Adds Nine Anchors, Reporters

Cox Media Group’s Fox affiliate WFXT Boston (DMA 7) today announced nine new on-air hires. The station said the new anchors and reporters are part of its goal to increase local newsgathering resources across all broadcast and digital platforms. Cox took over the station last October.

“Our talented team of broadcast journalists continues to grow and will provide New Englanders with more breaking news, weather and daily investigative reports,” said WFXT VP-GM General Manager Tom Raponi. “We are making a major commitment to providing viewers with the best journalism and covering the most important, impactful news stories across all our communities.”

Two anchor teams, a meteorologist, traffic reporter and three reporters will make up its morning news team. Daniel Miller will anchor Fox25 Morning News from 4 to 6 a.m. alongside Sorboni Banerjee and serve as a reporter for the later hours of the morning newscast. Miller joins from WISH Indianapolis where he was an anchor and reporter for the last 10 years. Banerjee, who has been with WFXT since 2012, will also report for later hours of Fox25 Morning News.

Sara Underwood, formerly a part-time anchor and reporter at WFXT, has joined the station full-time to anchor alongside Gene Lavanchy from 6 to 10 a.m. Underwood first joined WFXT in 2008 and previously anchored for eight years at WBZ Boston. Lavanchy has been with the station since 2003 when he helped launch the newscast.

Fox25 Morning News will also have a full-time traffic anchor. Julie Grauert, who is currently a reporter for NY1 and previously reported on traffic conditions for WPIX New York, will help viewers navigate through their morning commute.

Two new reporters will join the morning team. Jessica Reyes, who has been a part-time reporter at the station, will now be a full-time reporter. Michael Henrich, who is currently a reporter and fill-in anchor at WXIN Indianapolis, will begin with WFXT in February.

“We will have the most anchors, reporters and photographers every morning, making sure viewers get valuable information as they start their day,” said WFXT News Director Lee Rosenthal. “We really wanted to make sure we made the biggest commitment possible with Fox25 Morning News airing for six hours and being the only local news option in the 7 to 9 a.m. time  period.”
