WGAL Makes Changes To Weather Team

Hearst Television-owned NBC affiliate WGAL Lancaster, Pa. (DMA 43), announced that its chief meteorologist, Joe Calhoun, will take over the weather duties on its weekday evening newscasts beginning Friday, Nov.  1.  Calhoun’s transition from mornings to evenings will be complete when he delivers the forecast on Friday, Nov. 1 on WGAL News 8 at 10PM. Earlier that evening during News 8 at 6PM, WGAL’s Doug Allen will mark his final broadcast.

As Calhoun moves from mornings to evenings on WGAL, News 8 Storm Team Meteorologist Christine Ferreira will begin to handle forecast duties on News 8 Today, weekday mornings from 4:30 to 7 a.m.

Calhoun has been presenting the weather forecast on WGAL since August 1987. He was originally hired to do the weather on weekday mornings, and has been a regular part of WGAL viewers’ mornings for the past 26 years.

Ferreira is a veteran meteorologist with 10 years broadcast experience, beginning as an intern at WGAL when she attending Millersville University studying meteorology. For three semesters of her college education she studied under Joe Calhoun at WGAL. In February 2013 she returned to WGAL, joining the News 8 Storm Team from WEWS Cleveland.
