WGHP Greensboro Expanding Its Newscasts

The North Carolina Fox affiliate is adding a half-hour to both its noon and 6 p.m. broadcasts beginning Feb. 3.

Tribune Fox affiliate WGHP Greensboro, N.C. (DMA 46), is growing its local newscasts.

Beginning Feb. 3, the Fox 8 Noon News and the Fox 8 Six O’clock News will each expand with 30 more minutes of coverage.

The Fox 8 Noon News will expand to a full hour with anchors Brad Jones, Cindy Farmer and meteorologist Emily Byrd.

The Fox 8 6pm News will add a 6:30-7 p.m. half hour, a first for the market, according to WGHP. Neill McNeill, Katie Nordeen and chief meteorologist Van Denton will anchor the broadcast.

“There are 1.6 million potential viewers in this area, said Karen Koutsky, VP of news. “With that many people in the Piedmont, there’s a growing demand for local news when people can watch it after getting home from work. It will be a fast-paced half hour encompassing the biggest stories locally, nationally, and internationally. It will also be the only place to get an up-to-date weather forecast to plan your evening and tomorrow.”

With the expansion of the two newscasts, WGHP will produce a total of nine-and-a-half hours of local news every weekday.

And where are all the commenters that 2 weeks ago were saying how Tribune buying Local would be the end of local news coverage?
