WGN America Names Tom Huffman Unscripted SVP

WGN America and Tribune Studios named Tom Huffman SVP of unscripted programming. He joins Tribune in October and will oversee unscripted series development for both WGN America and Tribune Studios. Huffman will be based in Los Angeles and report to Matt Cherniss, president-GM of WGN America and Tribune Studios.

“As Tribune continues its expansion into original programming, Tom brings a fantastic set of experience and point-of-view as both a producer and an executive, all of which will be essential as we create more unscripted programming for Tribune’s local stations and WGN America,” Cherniss said.

Huffman was most recently VP of development and production at VH1 where he oversaw 11 series including Rehab with Dr. Drew and newly launched Hollywood Exes. Prior VH1, Huffman was VP of development at Shed Media US where he co-created the VH1 franchise Basketball Wives.

Huffman also was a development executive at Mark Burnett Productions before joining the Warner Bros.-operated Shed Media US.

He is a graduate of the film and television producing program at the University of Southern California.
