WHNT Names Paul Caron Assistant News Director

Tribune Broadcasting’s CBS affiliate WHNT Huntsville, Ala. (DMA 79), said Wednesday that Paul Caron will join the station as assistant news director

Caron will help oversee all news operations and work with the broadcast and interactive teams “to ensure content quality and guide the long-term future of the news product across all WHNT platforms,” the station said.

His first day will be July 24 and he will report to Denise Vickers, VP of news.

Caron was previously the managing editor at WGCL Atlanta.  Prior to that, he spent nearly 30 years at CNN, most recently as the network’s national content center manager, where he helped pilot the first integration of CNN’s newsgathering sources and social media teams, which then became the corporate template.

He also held a variety of management positions at the network, including regional assignment desk manager, manager and senior assignment Editor for CNN’s National Desk and weekend news manager.

Caron has been honored with several awards including an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award and several Peabody, Emmy and Associated Press Awards. Caron was also commended by FBI for his assistance in finding a kidnapped child.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and broadcast and cinematic arts from Central Michigan University.
