With WBIR Knoxville, Me-TV Exceeds 83%

With the addition of WBIR Knoxville and three other affiliates over the past week, the classic TV diginet now counts 136 outlets that cover more than 83% of TV homes.

Gannett’s WBIR Knoxville, Tenn. (DMA 61), has signed on as an affiliate of Me-TV, raising the diginet’s affiliate total to 136 and bringing its national clearance to more than 83% of TV homes, it was announced this morning.

WBIR is expected to begin airing the service on a subchannel sometime this fall. (Editor’s note: The original posting incorrectly reported that WBIR was bumping CW from a subchannel to make room for Me-TV.)

“Knoxville is a southern college town with wholesome family values. Me-TV is just that. We think Me-TV fits perfectly into our Straight from the Heart brand,” said WBIR GM Jeffrey H. Lee in a statement.

Last week, Me-TV added three new affiliates: JF Broadcasting’s KWSD Sioux Falls, S.D. (DMA 113) and Gray Television’s WIBW Topeka, Kan. (DMA 136) and WHSV Harrisonburg, Va. (DMA 178).

KWSD will air Me-TV on its primary channel. WIBW will launch it on a subchannel today. WHSV will begin broadcasting it on a subchannel Sept. 24.

The two-year-old network has licensed almost 100 series from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, CBS Television Distribution, NBCUniversal Television as well as many independent series owners and producers.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Its current lineup includes M*A*S*H, The Brady Bunch, The Beverly Hillbillies, Perry Mason, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Gunsmoke, I Love Lucy and Hawaii Five-O series.

Can someone please rewrite this article such that it makes sense? WBIR does not currently carry CW Plus, so it cannot possibly be dropping it for Me-TV.

The fact that Me-TV has expanded to 83% this fast doesn’t surprise me one bit. The content, high quality production, and the cash plus barter model, make it a winner.

Just hoping Me-TV comes to southeastern Virginia on a network with a greater reach. Preferably WVBT or even WTVZ (which just dropped The Cool TV).
