WJLA Launches ABC7 Alarm Clock App

Allbritton Communications-owned ABC affiliate WJLA Washington (DMA 8) today launched the ABC7 Alarm Clock app, which is now available for free on iTunes.

The app lets iPhone users start their day with local news, current weather and traffic conditions and personalized alarm clock greetings from ABC7 personalities.

This alarm clock lets users to customize their wake-up call with the sound of their favorite WJLA team members, including Alison Starling, Cynné Simpson, Jacqui Jeras, Leon Harris and Steve Chenevey.

To download the free app, users can:

  • Log on to wjla.com/mobile on an iPhone for a direct link to the app.
  • Go to the iTunes store or search for “WJLA Alarm Clock” from an iPhone or iPod touch.

 In addition to the wake-up voices of ABC7 personalities, users can also choose one of 10 built-in classic tones: Alarm Clock, Ascend, Chimes, Descend, Dog Barking, Doorbell, Sonar, Waterfall, Whistle and an authentic Rooster crow; or songs from their iTunes music library. Additionally consumers can adjust the alarm sound fade-in to encourage a pleasant way to wake up slowly.

The weather features include a video forecast from the ABC7 Stormwatch7 weather center, live Super Doppler radar maps; hourly and extended weather conditions and the latest WJLA forecasts. The traffic section will feature real-time traffic maps.

Too bad the ABC7 snobs ignored the gazillions of us who have Androids. That’s Google, you know! Heard of Google before?

Is this the same app as the O&Os? Did they license from them, or rip off the idea? Reporters are supposed to ask obvious questions like this.
