WJLA To Launch Online Lifestyle Magazine

Sinclair Broadcast Group’s WJLA Washington announced today that it will launch DC Refined, an online lifestyle and culture magazine. DCRefined.com will debut on Thursday, April 14, and highlight the region’s most popular restaurants, real estate and travel destinations. DC Refined segments will also air weekly on co-owned NewsChannel 8’s Let’s Talk Live lifestyle program.

“This is an exciting time for WJLA-TV as we continue to expand our content offerings,” said station GM Dan Mellon. “DC Refined is the perfect platform to spotlight all that our region has to offer.”

DC Refined will be led by Managing Editor Laura Wainman, former Washington Life Magazine managing editor. Wainman will oversee Assistant Editor Christina Irizarry, former WJLA web editor; and photojournalist Amanda Andrade-Rhoades, a former San Francisco crime and politics reporter.

“I look forward to bringing the region a platform to discover what to do, where to eat and who to meet,” said Wainman. “Our sister sites in Seattle and Cincinnati have paved the way for this brand to succeed and it is a much-needed outlet here in the National Capital Region.”

The Refined brand is the lifestyle arm of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, and Washington will be the third market to launch under the Refined name, following Seattle and Cincinnati.
