WKOW To Demo LG Next-Gen TV System

LG and GatesAir will conduct a test of the Futurecast digital TV system on the Quincy Broadcasting-owned ABC afiliate in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 22. The system is one of the proponents in the ATSC 3.0 standards-setting contest.

LG Electronics, its R&D subsidiary Zenith and GatesAir will conduct an over-the-air demonstration of the Futurecast universal terrestrial broadcasting system, early in the morning on Oct. 22 at WKOW Madison, Wis.

The demo of the OFDM-based next-generation digital television transmission system from the Quincy Broadcasting-owned station will last from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m.

Futurecast is one of the physical layer technologies under consideration by the Advanced Television Systems Committee for ATSC 3.0.

The system supports indoor reception deep inside a building by a handheld receiver, high-speed mobile reception, as in a fast-moving vehicle, and reception of Ultra-HD by a home 4K television within the same 6 MHz channel.

Futurecast was first demonstrated at the 2014 NAB Show and subsequently tested with little fanfare over the air this summer, according to an LG spokesperson.
