WNBC New York Hires EP Of Investigations

NBC-owned WNBC New York (DMA 1) today hired Dave Manney as the station’s executive producer of investigations. He begins his duties June 6.

Manney returns to the Big Apple following his tenure as news director of Detroit’s ABC affiliate WXYZ. While at WXYZ for the past two years, Manney led news coverage of the Motor City’s emergence from bankruptcy and a new administration in City Hall, along with a myriad of other issues.

“Smart, seasoned and savvy, Dave Manney is the perfect choice to serve as NBC 4 New York’s Executive Producer of Investigations,” said Susan Sullivan, VP of news at WNBC. “I’m excited for his return and I know he’ll help grow the I-Team and take our investigative commitment to a new level.”

In his new role with NBC 4 New York, Manney will be charged with further growing the station’s investigative team, the NBC 4 I-Team. He will also grow the station’s recently-strengthened consumer investigative franchise, Better Get Baquero, which has recovered more than $800,000 for consumers since 2013, and is powered by a new consumer investigative center, which answers every phone call and returns every email.

Manney served as WNBC’s managing editor between 2012 and 2013, and was the recipient of a national Edward R. Murrow award for coverage of Hurricane Sandy.

His career, which also included leadership roles with WPIX and Detroit Public Television, includes a national Emmy nomination for coverage of the Empire State Building shooting. Manney has also been honored with eight regional Emmy awards, a silver medal from the New York Festivals and multiple awards from the Associated Press and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
