WNBC New York Names Ben Berkowitz Digital VP

NBC O&O WNBC New York (DMA 1) today appointed Ben Berkowitz vice president, digital. His first day will be Monday, June 6.

At WNBC, Berkowitz will manage the editorial and business strategy, operations and direction for the station’s New York’s digital platforms, including social media, mobile and the station’s website NBCNewYork.com. He will also work closely with the newsroom to further transform breaking news, weather, investigative and consumer reporting into multi-platform content.

Berkowitz resides with his family in Maplewood, New Jersey.

Berkowitz joins WNBC from CNBC, where he was deputy managing editor, news for CNBC Digital. At CNBC, Berkowitz oversaw day-to-day operations for the network’s homepage, including headline writing, story selection and digital interface. He managed a team of nearly two dozen, including homepage producers, the rewrite desk, copy editors and others.

“Not only is Ben smart and savvy, but he is a strategic thinker who clearly understands the importance of our digital platforms. He is one of the best in the business,” said Eric Lerner, WNBC president-GM.

A digital content strategist and team leader, Berkowitz brings more than 15 years of experience into his new role. Prior to joining CNBC, Berkowitz served in leadership capacities with Thomson Reuters, Fidelity Investments and The Associated Press.
