WNJU Increases Its News Staff By Two

Telemundo’s  WNJU New York (DMA 1) today added two more journalists to its growing news roster.

Cristian Benavides and Luis Gerardo Núñez have been named reporters for Noticiero Telemundo 47 at 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m. Both will work alongside news anchors Jorge Ramos and Yaima Crespo, sports anchor Veronica Contreras and meteorologist Pedro Montoro. Benavides and Núñez will make their on-air debut in early February.

Benavides, who joined Telemundo in 2014, joins WNJU from co-owned KTAZ Phoenix, where he was a reporter for the station’s local weekday newscasts. Before this, he worked for Telemundo’s WZDC Washington as a political analyst and at Univision’s WVEA Tampa Bay, Fla., as news reporter from 2012 to 2014.

With experience working in the third and fifth-largest Hispanic markets in the country, Núñez joins WNJU after working as a reporter for Telemundo’s  KXTX Dallas-Fort Worth WSCV Miami  since 2013. Before joining Telemundo, Núñez was a reporter for WGEN Miami. Núñez earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Universidad Monteávila in Venezuela. He also earned his master’s degree in communications from Florida International University.
