WPMT To Debut High-Def Newscasts

The Harrisburg, Pa., Fox affiliate is upgrading to HD in both the studio and the field beginning in January.

Tribune Broadcasting’s Fox affiliate WPMT Harrisburg, Pa. (DMA 39), announced that its news operation will be upgraded to high definition in January.

HD cameras both in the studio and in the field, Fox43 News will also feature a new studio set, specifically built with high-definition broadcasting in mind.

WPMT said the conversion to HD is more than a simple upscaling of standard-definition video to 720p HD. The station has invested in a full HD operation, from robotic cameras in the studio to top-of-the-line HD editing gear.

WPMT offers four newscasts: Fox43 News At 10, Fox43 News At 6:30, Fox43 News At 11 and Fox43 Morning News. All four broadcasts will switch to HD, presenting a total of six hours per weekday of high definition local news.
