WTHR Names Keith Connors News Director

The former executive news director at KHOU Houston takes over at Dispatch's Indianapolis NBC affiliate on Jan. 12.

Dispatch Broadcast Group on Friday named Keith Connors news director of its NBC affiliate WTHR Indianapolis (DMA 25), effective Jan. 12. Connors comes to WTHR from KHOU Houston where he has been executive news director since 2005.

During his tenure in Houston, KHOU enjoyed some of the highest ratings in station history. The station also won a number of broadcast journalism’s highest honors including two national Emmy awards, two duPont Columbia awards, a Peabody award and six National Edward R. Murrow awards including the 2010 Overall Excellence Award.

Before his work in Houston, Connors was executive news director at WCNC Charlotte, N.C., for seven years. During this time, Keith engineered a complete overhaul of the station’s news product and helped the station earn record news ratings and prestigious honors including a 2004 duPont Columbia award, a 2004 Peabody Award and several Edward R. Murrow regional awards.

Connors also worked as executive news director at WVEC Norfolk, Va., and as news director for WORK Rochester, N.Y. He held positions at WKRN Nashville as well as at WTOL and WDHO, both in Toledo, Ohio.

He is a graduate of Ashland College in Ashland, Ohio.

For trivia buffs… Keith was featured in a PBS documentary shot at WCNC. It was a series of episodes; I forget what it was called. It was actually quite entertaining.
