WTTG Adds Weeknight Newscast At 6:30

Beginning July 18, 5 @ 6:30 will primarily focus on the presidential race. It will be hosted by Shawn Yancy and Jim Lokay and will also broadcast live from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Fox-owned WTTG Washington (DMA 7) expand its coverage of the presidential election with a new weeknight newscast — 5 @ 6:30 — primarily devoted to the topic. The half-hour broadcast will debut Monday, July 18.

In making the announcement, WTTG VP-News Director Paul McGonagle said: “This election is unlike any we have ever seen. It deserves unconventional and original political reporting.”

The program will be hosted by Shawn Yancy and Jim Lokay, with contributors including the station’s political reporters Tom Fitzgerald and Ronica Cleary. WTTG will broadcast live from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, while offering interviews with local and national newsmakers from the Historic Old Ebbitt Grill, located near the White House.

Although the show will mainly focus on coverage of the 2016 presidential election, it will also include top stories of the day for Washington area residents.

With this expansion, WTTG will produce 59 hours of local news a week.
