WTXF Anchor Under Fire For Shooting Tweet

WTXF Phhiladelphia news anchor Joyce Evans is being criticized for trying to get her Twitter followers to watch the station's coverage of a deadly shooting by comparing it to Breaking Bad.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia TV news anchor is being criticized for trying to get her Twitter followers to watch the station’s coverage of a deadly shooting by comparing it to “Breaking Bad.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports WTXF news anchor Joyce Evans tweeted “Thought ‘Breaking Bad’ was hot last Sunday? See who’s breaking bad in SW Phllly, leavin’ 6 people SHOT — Tonite at Ten!”

Viewers immediately criticized Evans, with one person writing it sounded “like it was written by a sociopath.”

Evans is a longtime anchor at the Fox affiliate. She later responded that she was trying to compare the “very real life drama” of the shooting to the fictional show about a chemistry teacher turned methamphetamine dealer.

Sunday evening’s shooting killed one person and wounded five. It remains under investigation.

This speaks volumes about the sad state of local TV news.

Considering your numerous posts and what you and others see as what is wrong with newscasts (crime, violence and weather) clearly you would have rather the station not even cover the story….period.

There is a huge difference between covering the story and grossly sensationalizing it. You are part of the problem if you don’t see the obvious distinction.

And, as proven, you clearly do not know how to keep an audience’s attention in the 21st Century.
