WWSB Tampa Revamps Its Anchor Lineup

ABC affiliate WWSB Tampa, Fla. (DMA 14), announced today that weeknight anchor Lauren Dorsett is leaving for personal reasons and plans to return to Southern California, where she grew up and most of her family still lives.

Hayley Wielgus, co-anchor of WWSB’s Good Morning Suncoast and ABC 7 News at Noon, is being promoted to weeknight anchor. In her new role, Wielgus will co-anchor the station’s  5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. newscasts with Scott Dennis and will also anchor ABC 7 News at 11 PM. In addition, Wielgus will serve as health reporter, along with Alix Redmonde.

With the promotion of Wielgus to weeknights, Good Morning Suncoast’s Stephanie Roberts will become co-anchor of the morning news, along with co-anchor Don Brennan and Meteorologist John Scalzi. Roberts, who has filled in at the station as a freelancer, officially joined WWSB in early September. She has worked in major markets as both news anchor and meteorologist, including 15 years in morning television.

During the transition, Wielgus will begin co-anchoring the 5:30 p.m. newscast with Scott Dennis on Monday, Oct. 7. She will also continue co-anchoring the noon broadcast with Dennis and begin her new role as one of the station’s two health reporters.

Also on Oct. 7, Roberts will assume her new position as co-anchor of Good Morning Suncoast.

Dorsett’s last day at WWSB will be Wednesday, Nov. 27.

WWSB is one of two ABC affiliates in the Tampa/St. Petersburg market, but it is in Sarasota. WFTS in St. Petersburg is the other ABC affiliate, and is probably considered as the main ABC station in the market.

WWSB ONLY services Sarasota County, though co-located in the Tampa-St. Pete market. WFTS is the primary ABC affiliate in and for Tampa Bay.
