WXIN Adds 7 And 11 P.M. Newscasts

The Indianapolis Fox affiliate will compete head-to-head with WTHR, WISH and WRTV. The new 11 o’clock broadcast will be anchored by Nicole Pence and will bring the station’s weekly news total to 66 hours per week.

Tribune Broadcasting-owned Fox affiliate WXIN Indianapolis (DMA 26) is expanding news operations to include 7 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

The 11 p.m. news, Fox59 NewsPoint at 11, is scheduled to premiere on Monday, June 30, with Fox59 News at 7PM scheduled to launch later in the fall.

With the news expansion also comes the naming of former WTHR Indianapolis anchor-reporter Nicole Pence as anchor of NewsPoint. Veteran Indianapolis broadcasters Bob Donaldson and Fanchon Stinger will co-anchor the 7 o’clock newscast.

According to WXIN, NewsPoint will be packaged as a standalone newscast — “a concise wrap-up of the day’s events, plus a quick look forward to tomorrow’s weather.”

NewsPoint will have a distinct look and feel from the rest of the station’s newscasts, WXIN says.

WXIN News Director Kerri Cavanaugh says the new format of NewsPoint offers an alternative for latenight news viewers. “Indianapolis news viewers are well informed, savvy, and deserving of an 11 p.m. newscast with a fast-paced, no-nonsense approach. NewsPoint is just that– news that’s straight to the point, and it fits in perfectly with the Fox59 News brand.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Pence graduated cum laude from DePaw University with a double major in communication arts and sciences and Spanish, and a minor in political science. She earned her master’s of public affairs degree from Indiana University-Purdue University with high honors.
