WZZM Hires Sports Director And Sports MMJ

Gannett-owned ABC affiliate WZZM Grand Rapids, Mich. (DMA 40), has beefed up its sports department.

Jamal Spencer is WZZM’s new sport director is a Michigan native from the Metro Detroit area and a graduate of Michigan State University. He is returning home to the Great Lakes State from Fargo, N.D., where he ran sports at KVLY-KXJB.

His start date is Monday, Nov. 17.

Adriana Mendez joins the station as a sports reporter/MMJ. Originally from Kenosha, Wis., Mendez comes to WZZM from KWKT Waco, Texas. Her first day will be Monday, Nov. 24.

Longtime sports anchor Brent Ashcroft will be leaving the sports department to pursue in-depth, feature-length storytelling.
