WZZM To Launch 5 P.M. Newscast

The Grand Rapids, Mich., ABC affil will debut the broadcast on Sept. 8. Juliet Dragos and Nick LaFave will co-anchor.

WZZM, the Gannett-owned ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Mich. (DMA 39), will introduce a 5 p.m. newscast on Sept. 8. This is the latest in a recent series of news additions at the station beginning with the Noon News expansion to one hour in late May.

“Being everywhere our customers want us to be is a priority for us here at WZZM 13,” said Janet Mason, WZZM president-GM. “We have worked hard over the past several months to realign our resources, on all platforms, to serve our customers in the best way possible.”

The new 5 p.m. broadcast will be co-anchored by Juliet Dragos and Nick LaFave. Evening news will now run from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

“Our 5 p.m. newscast will allow us to better cover the late-breaking news of the day as well as go more in-depth on important issues,” said Taz Painter, WZZM news director. “I hope viewers will also benefit from our exclusive local health reporting and 13 On Your Side Watchdog coverage.”
