NBC‘s Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd has ended his run.
“After nine years and more than 430 broadcasts, today is my final Sunday in the moderator chair,” he said at the top of the hour. “To say that this has been the honor and privilege of my lifetime is an understatement.”
“This is simply the pinnacle of political journalism and something my younger self never imagined,” he continued. “No matter how much of a grind the current political climate is, wearing me down on any given day, I still always have had a pinch-me-I-can’t-believe-it feeling every time I hear my name introduced as the moderator of the longest running show in the history of television.”
He ended his parting statement with a joke, saying his goal was always to avoid being the last moderator of the longest running show in American history.
“I’ve achieved that goal,” he said. “And then some. I look forward to passing the baton in about 57 minutes.”
Todd will be replaced by Weekend Today’s Kristen Welker.
Welker, joined NBC News in 2010. She’s covered the last three presidential elections and moderated the final 2020 debate between former president Donald Trump and current president Joe Biden. She was named co-host of Weekend Today in 2020.
When Todd announced his departure on-air in June, he called Welker “the right person” to take over the job. He said this is how he “hoped this would end for me, passing the baton to her.”
Chuck my friend I will totally miss you. Best Wishes and Happiness. 😂👍👏❤
Job well done for the past nine years.
Wow, I have really enjoyed your work. One of the best intervieers in the business. You asked the hard questions and didn’t let them double talk their way out. What’s next ?
My husband and I watch Chuck every week. We appreciate how he makes the conversations understandable to the “every day person”. We will miss him greatly! Hopefully Ms Welker will continue to make the show interesting and easy.
I will miss Chuck. He is simply the best
Guy has basically been a democratic operative for the past nine years. Good riddance.
Democratic operative in the sense that the mainstream Democratic party solely supports the status quo? Maybe, but with the exception of social issues, so does the mainstream Republican party. Chuck Todd has been an operative for the status quo, and I will agree with you on one thing: Good riddance.
Good riddance.
I lost all respect for Chuck when he welched on a bet with Matt Lauer during Men’s Health month. Obviously many years ago. Before that I enjoyed watching him.
I’m sad to see him go, hope to see him soon on MSNBC . Wishing him the best.
Best of luck
You’ll be missed. I loved the way you handled
even difficult ones.
First and Formost the viewers of meet the press are the baby boomers not any one under 55 yo
So by NBC giving Chuck Todd the the door is a big mistake
His replacement will not gain any new and younger views
Sorry wrong time in the political climate to make such a change
Good Luck Chuck I will miss you and the show !
Uh… he’s giving HIMSELF the door. What do you want NBC to do, tie him to a chair and force him to host at gunpoint?
Well, that’s not entirely true. I’m a boomer & I have never watched MTP (or most ‘news’ program for that matter).
Your integrity and intelligence never wavers. You have always been informative and a trustworthy journalist. I applaud you and walk proud.
I’m so glad that the new propagandist is female! Progress is so important.
The show won’t be the same without you, I have enjoyed the show for nine years, enjoy your family and your new adventures you seek to do.
Best of luck and I will miss you!
Good riddance. What a liar and lowlife creep.
Thanks Chuck!! Enjoyed you as moderator. Enjoy your next phase of life.
Is he going on to something new or full retirement
Awesome replacement choice. Congratulations Todd!
Good riddance Todd was nothing but a lying conniving democrat.Fly over country rural America hating scumbag
Your anger is disturbing Ray. I hope that you are able to seek the help that you need.
Oh grow uo
Good riddance. Todd was ill-equipped to deal with the serial liars and sociopath that filed their way to his show every weekend. He rarely asked follow-up or pushed back on obvious lies. Of course I expect Welker to do the same. The Sunday news shows have become worthless.
Don’t let the door hit you in the a****. Good Riddance!
Is Chuck going to the View? He would fit perfectly on Whoopi’s lap.
Goodbye
This show really went downhill after Tim Russert….
has been a pleasure each week to watch and enjoy your political expertise.
He was no Tim Russert. I didn’t always agree with Russert, but he was the best, and it isn’t close. He was respectful to others. Something that can’t be said for the polarizing talking heads on both sides of the aisle in the “news” industrythat populate the internet and television today., .
