NBC‘s Sunday Night Football recruited Carson Daly to explain the rules of the game to new fans (aka Swifites) prior to the Chiefs vs. Jets kickoff.
“We got a call from our friends at NBC sports asking us to put tonight’s story in language that the legions of Swifties would understand,” Daly explained.
With Swift’s “Welcome to New York” playing in the background, the Voice host went on to use the singer’s song titles (or parts of song titles) to explain the upcoming game. He called Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs the next “Great American Dynasty.” He said the New York Jets have been left with a “Blank Space” since Aaron Rodgers’ ankle injury, but will try to “Shake It Off” as they face the Chiefs. He also name-dropped “Wildest Dreams,” “Fearless,” “Mastermind” and “Style.”
The obsession with Swift didn’t end there. Once the game started, her reactions were televised and a trailer for her upcoming Eras Tour concert film played during a commercial break.
NBC is simply leaning into the online frenzy that arose last Sunday when Swift attended a Chiefs game for the first time — seemingly confirming rumors that she is romantically linked to Kelce.
But unlike last week, Swift wasn’t the only A-lister causing a stir. The pop icon entered security with marrieds Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Blake Lively (Gossip Girl), and Reynolds’ X-Men costar Hugh Jackman. She was later photographed hugging singer (and former Girl Meets World star) Sabrina Carpenter, who’s been opening for her on the South American leg of her Eras Tour, and seen in a box with Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski and Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner. Succession‘s Jeremy Strong was also in attendance.
It seems Swift has elevated NFL games from mere athletic competition to ultra-chic hangout.

As a chiefs fan that grew up during the Marty Era of football, I hate this so much. Please, I JUST WANT TO WATCH THE GAME. Not the other people watching it.

I never understood why anytime I watch a game they always gotta show celebrities who are there watching it.

That seems like a bit much.
Is this what we’re going to have to put up with now every time we watch a football game. Even if the Chiefs aren’t playing the game we’re watching we’re gonna have to hear about Taylor Swift, and whoever the guy is she’s dating on the Kansas City Chiefs team personally, I don’t give a crap because I’m sure just like all of her other romances. This one will crash and burn too, so please can we just stick to football and forget about the romances.
I don’t mind the media making a big deal over Taylor Swift attending Chief’s games. I really don’t care one iota. No big deal who: so-called VIPS’ or whatever person’s financial status is. I tune in to watch the game not who is in the audience. Sometimes I get a chuckle when the camera focuses on someone or a group of people. No big deal. She seemed to be having fun and enjoyed the game. Whether she or other entertainers attend a game or show doesn’t distract me from the game. To many soure apples/killjoys in this world that aren’t happy unless they have something to complain about. Remember: Misery loves company. And this so-called issue is of absolutely no importance compared to “REAL” issue in our world.

How this woman is such a media darling is perplexing. Hopefully Travis is prepared for the paps going through his trash and following him around like he’s a member of the royal family because that’s what’s in store. Here’s hoping she writes a scathing song about him after the breaks up.

Low Key I was more happy to see Hugh than Taylor, and I like her music.
Combining Guys sports idols with gals music idols is not a problem and it didn’t mess with what turned out to be a great game. Your football stars didn’t lack attention. Relax.
This just makes me sad. Do they have to invade every part of our lives? Turning the NFL into nothing more than celebrity news. You can’t stop it but it’s super depressing. Will each team start recruiting their own celebrities now just to get ratings? The beginning of the end of serious football.
I am a Swiftie and Taylor deserves to have be out having fun especially on her break from her Eras tour. Still bummed I haven’t gotten tickets yet to any of her concerts, lol. However all this media attentions is flashing back to big public displays with her current love interest. This echos Tom Hiddleston days etc. I do hope this isn’t a show to hype up the Chiefs etc or any other media hype and then come spring the headlines are Travis and Taylor have broken up as she is too busy touring. (or whatever the headline could be). I do hope they genuinely like each other and that this will last. I do not know anything really about Travis but they are cute together and would be nice to see her get her happy ending.
The attention on her was total overkill. One would forget that an actual game was being played. It’s not Taylor’s fault, but networks really need to calm down about this relationship.
