CBS on Tuesday afternoon announced renewals for NCIS (aka broadcast’s most-watched drama), CSI: Vegas, The Amazing Race and six other series.
The other programs that got the nod today to return for the 2023-2024 TV season are 60 Minutes (TV’s most-watched news program), the sophomore procedural NCIS: Hawa’ii, Survivor, Tough as Nails, Lingo and the true crime docuseries 48 Hours.
Additional CBS renewals may trickle in at a later date. But on the scripted front at least, that now leaves on the bubble the network’s third-most watched drama, Blue Bloods (whose possible end we speculated about earlier this year); S.W.A.T. (which ranks No. 10 in audience out of the 13 dramas CBS has aired this season); and the freshman cop drama East New York, which draws a slightly larger audience than S.W.A.T. (The midseason drama True Lies does not debut until Wednesday, March 1.)
To date, CBS has renewed a total 19 series for next season, including previously announced pick-ups for this season’s most-watched new series, Fire Country, and TV’s No. 1 comedy, Young Sheldon, plus Ghosts (TV’s second-most watched comedy), The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, So Help Me Todd, The Equalizer, FBI (CBS’ second-most watched drama), FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.
NCIS: Los Angeles, meanwhile, is in the process of winding down its 14th and final season.
“This season CBS is continuing its winning tradition, delivering an unparalleled combination of top returning series and new hit shows that are entertaining huge audiences on both broadcast and streaming,” CBS Entertainment chief Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “It is a testament to the stellar work being done by our best-in-class talent in front of and behind the camera that we have had yet another exceptional season, and I know we will only continue to build on this foundation of outstanding programming as we look ahead toward next fall.”

NCIS Los Angeles is my fav. Very disappointed it’s going off the air .
This show has the best on screen relationships ever .
I am not a fan of ncis Hawaii.
I agree and will mist NCIS:LA, but honestly it has been a good ride! If they would at least make the series more about Hawaii, it would be fun to see the beaches and enjoy the culture, but they act like they could be NCIS:anywhere.
They did that already on Hawaii 5-0…
Hawaii 5-0 ended too soon.
Don’t rule out the upcoming NCIS Sydney
I am tired of NCISs.. it is so predictable. Need better, more interesting shows to watch. The CBS shows are too negative, about killings, over and over. NOthing interesting, captivating.
Try Fire Country if you haven’t already. It’s different from usual CBS fare.
Totally agree. Fire Country is one of my favorite new shows along with East New York and So Help Me Todd.
My very favorite show now!
I love Max in this. Not so much in Xeal Team. Really good program!
If they cancel Blue Bloods, there won’t be anything on network TV for me except for Magnum P.I. Not sure how they will spread out the final two 10 episode seasons? None of those new CBS pilot shows look that great.
Season 5 of Magnum will be 20 episodes, not split in two seasons like originally planned.
Cool, thanks.
NICE! It’s only Amazing Race and Magnum for me.
Well if blue bloods does get axed some other random show might take its time slot.
Magnum is moving to NBC,
If you were to put swat back on Wednesday night like they were originally then they might have more viewers. Quit putting food shows on Sunday nights during football season because that is what hurt ncis la because you over it to Sunday not guys at 10 pm so therefore it wouldn’t come in until 1030 or later due to football games being delayed
That’s where you live…for millions of us on the West Coast, that doesn’t matter.
SWAT has performed better on Friday in many respects.
Yup!
Sunday night has been fatal to series on CBS before. Shows are delayed when football goes into overtime, then there is the football game on NBC at the same time. You also often have awards and specials on that night. I am glad NCIS is continuing so maybe we can see Gibbs, DiNozzo and his family, and Ducky again before the series ends. I always loved CSI but I really miss Grissom and members of the original cast. The new group is growing on me so I continue to give it a chance. Maybe they can bring back some of the favorites from the original next season.
Wednesday night’s already have the One Chicago shows, SWAT is good in the Friday night timeslot…I hope it gets renewed.
NCI yeS! I’m also happy for CSI but a little worried about BB.
BB isn’t a ratings thing – it’s whenever Tom Selleck decides he’s finished, aside from any fancy-footwork of the story that the writers could come up with. Realistically, they’d have to kill off his character or no longer have family dinners (on screen). I just don’t see a future to BB without him, though. Maybe Blue Bloods, the Next Generation, with Jamie taking over as Commissioner – but that’s not happening any time soon.
I haven’t seen anything from TS on wanting to quit, have you? On the contrary he’s said he wants the show to go on as long as it can. I really hope BB is renewed because it’s the ONLY scripted show on broadcast or streaming that always leaves me happy at the end. Maybe that’s an outdated concept but we need it somewhere in our entertainment!
It certainly is an outdated concept, unfortunately…but one the networks steer clear of religiously. That’s why people continue to leave them.
Yay for the NCIS shows! Sad about NCIS:LA. Hope the prediction about Blue Bloods doesn’t happen.
Can’t believe they still haven’t yet renewed East New York! I’m sure it will be, but why wait? This and Fire Country have been my new faves.
Why the renewal for So Help Me Todd? That show is a major disappointment and I love Marcia Gay Harden
I like ENY but if it died I wouldn’t cry. It’s okay but meh for me. Love Fire Country.
I think So Help Me Todd is a winner thanks to its cast. I’d prefer stronger stories, a little more action or true whodunnits. But the ingredients are there. I am reminded of Crazy Like a Fox from the 1980s. That show had such good chemistry among cast too.
SO HELP ME TODD is the show CBS is taking a risk on – they were happy enough to give it the second CBS renewal this season after FC.
I love So Help Me Todd!!!!
Me too! It’s smart and funny and I absolutely adore that family.
East New York and Fire Country are 2 of the most boring shows along with NCIS Hawaii. Thank goodness I’ve found alternative programming.
Amen!
I like So Help Me Todd… glad it was renewed.
Same here!! Love the family dynamic where everyone has their own separate issue but will rally together when necessary!
Happy for NCIS.
I hope in a year or two NCIS LA gets picked up by Paramount like criminal minds.
I’m so happy about CSI and I really hope that in S3 we sprinkle in some CSI:NY or Miami alums!
I keep waiting for Greg to show back up, I know its coming at some point!
I haven’t watched NCIS since Mark Harmon left. It just doesn’t feel like the show I loved without Gibbs. But still, I’m glad to see it’s removed. And very excited about amazing Race! Fingers crossed for bluebloods!
So happy that we will have Season 21 of NCIS! I hope there are no cast changes for the upcoming season as I like the current cast they have.
I think that Blue Bloods all comes down to Tom Selleck and whether he wants to continue. Their renewal was late last year if I’m remembering correctly.
From what i have read elsewhere they are working on budgeting for the show to bring it back for season 14
I only watch two shows on CBS – Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon. None of the other shows, new or old, made my “must watch” list. So if CBS cancels BB they better:
1) not end on a cliffhanger;
2) properly tie up all the open ended questions and not leave anything to speculation;
3) make Joe a REAL part of the family – mandatory Sunday family dinner and all in every remaining episode!!!!
4) must bring back Nicky and Jack Jr for the final family dinner episode.
Pleasantly surprised for CSI. Though it’s probably the one show with strong international syndication. Not looking good for Blue Bloods or East NY. I’m guessing SWAT sticks around for Fridays, unless CBS expands to an additional hour of comedies and moves an NCIS or FBI there. It will be interesting to see how True Lies does.
In before anyone else says something negative about NCIS: Hawaii.
There are fans like me who love watching the show. Just let us enjoy the fact it got renewed. If your favorites got renewed, I’m happy for you. I’m sorry that NCIS: LA did not.
Cool? Thanks.
I also enjoy NCIS: Hawai’i. A little bummed about NCIS: LA but it seems they’ve run out of storylines to pursue on that one.
Half an NCIS LA episode is mindless banter or something else not related to anything resmbling an interesting storyline.
I initially had no intention on watching NCIS: Hawaii after they cancelled my favorite NCIS: New Orleans but I’m glad I gave it a chance as I am truly enjoying it now.
I am so excited all my FBI shows, CSI, LOS VEGAS, EAST NEW YORK, NCIS and NCIS Hawaii. And lots of great PBS shows to many to mention. My DVR is always I record mode.
East New York was not renewed yet…
Oh I really hope it does! I like that show!
Blue Bloods is the last network show I watch anymore. If that goes away, it’s all streaming for me.
I don’t watch much on CBS. Mostly their Friday night line-up for me. Blue Bloods is a Saturday morning staple with my coffee. I would really miss that if it goes but it’s had a very long life. 100% it’s up to Tom Selleck. Other than that I watch ENY but if I missed an episode I probably wouldn’t notice. Been watching Survivor for years.
Blue Bloods, Sheldon and East New York are all that interest me. The remaining shows, especially the “comedies” are of no interest. So much availability on streaming, except Netflix. Cancelled that over-the-password nonsense here in Canada.
Any update on Undercover Boss?
All thus far renewed shows are denoted abovewards.
Okay thank you. I didn’t see it in the in limbo shows either so didn’t know if I missed a cancellation
That has been gone for years. I think it got to a point where employees knew what the show was and the undercover was no longer a secret.
Hold on didn’t that show conclude a few years ago?
If you stopped moving shows around then they would find an audience. NCIS La is a great show but it was reruns for the last 2 weeks. There should be enough new shows for the whole season…Blue bloods, Swat should stay on. Magnum can be cancelled I I didn’t like how they went from the original.
Come on CBS, press ‘renew’ for East New York. So rare we see such a high-quality prestige drama on broadcast television these days. The cast, writing, production values are tops.
Please cbs renew East NewYork. One of my favorite new show. Love Sunday combination of the Equalizer followed by EastNewYork
I strongly agree with you Kim!
I’m still so very disappointed about NCIS:LA being canceled. Makes no sense to me. There is still so much storyline that can be explored. And now with COVID restrictions eased, they can get back to the show that their faithful followers have loved for 14 years. Please tell me why this show is being canceled. Just like Magnum, P.I., I pray some other network picks this show up. It’s truly a travesty that it’s being canceled. CBS, you have let us down yet again.
Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Organized Crime, FBI, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1 Lone Star were all renewed for the 2023-24 season.
Wasn’t worried in the slightest but glad to see the Hawaii renewal being official. That show has the best written relationships in the franchise. Not a single unlikeable character. Good to see a show like that breathing.
Seems like CBS is waiting on what Tom Selleck will say. It’s not like he’s doing anything else. If Tom says no SWAT probably get renewed
Possible if East New York gets renewed it might move to Friday or Sundays at 10 pm.
Probably another negotiation with actors salary situation. Jimmy Smith…
MY theory is they are waiting on post-football season numbers for EAST NEW YORK…It’s done well adding in streaming/delayed, but it’s not aired in it’s regular time slot steady enough.
CBS is faced, for yet another year TOO MANY SHOWS!
