The Planet Express crew is staying on the job.
Futurama, which Hulu revived (for the second time in the show’s life) earlier this year, will extend its run on the streamer. Hulu has ordered two more seasons — 20 episodes’ worth — of the animated series from creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.
Hulu’s initial pickup of Futurama in 2022 was also for two seasons and 20 episodes, so the new order will take the show through season 14. Season 12 is set to premiere in 2024.

The renewal continues the long and winding journey for Futurama, which began as a Fox series in 1999. It lasted five seasons on the broadcast network and was canceled in 2003, then became a staple on Adult Swim before being revived for four direct-to-DVD movies in 2007. The movies were then broken into half-hour installments for what’s considered the show’s fifth season, on Comedy Central (which also picked up syndication rights to previous seasons), in 2008.
Comedy Central then ordered more new episodes — 52 in all — and aired them from 2010-13 (though initially ordered as two 26-episode seasons, they aired in 13-episode batches and are now numbered as four seasons). Hulu’s revival premiered July 24, just shy of 10 years after the last Comedy Central installment.
The show has been a success for Hulu, making Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series six times during season 11. Futurama is also a key part of the streamer’s adult animation brand, which includes fellow original series Solar Opposites and a forthcoming King of the Hill revival and the libraries of Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and American Dad, among others.
John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman star in Futurama, which comes from 20th Television Animation. Groening and Cohen executive produce with Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz.
