Sarah Hyland has joined Busy Phillips in sharing a story of sexual assault on the same day that Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford gave her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
On Thursday, the 27-year-old Modern Family star tweeted a typed message under the header #whyIdidn’treport, referring to the hashtag that arose after President Donald Trump made comments that questioned Kavanaugh accuser Ford for waiting to report the alleged assault.
“He was a friend. It was New Year’s Eve my senior year of high school. Everyone was drunk. He broke into the bathroom I was in,” Hyland wrote. “I hoped it was a dream but my ripped tights proved otherwise. I thought no one would believe me. I didn’t want to be called dramatic. After all I didn’t say no. Shock can do that to a person.”
Hyland added the hashtags #believewomen, #metoo and #Ibelieveher to the story in the document, and tweeted the hashtags #WeBelieveChristine, #MeToo, #believewomen and #IBelieveHer with the story.
Hyland joins stars including Phillips and Padma Lakshmi, who published a New York Times story on Tuesday about an assault, in sharing stories of surviving sexual abuse timed to the Kavanaugh hearing.
“Today is the day we are silent no more. All of us. I’m scared to post this. I can’t imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now,” Phillips wrote in her post.
