Paging TV’s erstwhile Dr. Carter!
Max has handed a straight-to-series order to The Pitt, a new medical drama starring and executive-produced by Noah Wyle. Fellow ER vets John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill are also on board as EPs.
The Pitt, which has received a 15-episode order, is described as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.”
“We are grateful to Warner Bros. Television and Max for giving us this opportunity to return to the world of urban medicine,” Gemmill, Wyle and Wells said in a joint statement. “The myriad of challenges facing the doctors, nurses, technicians, patients, and their families who work in the trenches of modern medicine have become only more pronounced in the decade and a half since we last visited their stories. We’re thrilled to be able to return to this world with the support of our partners and are looking forward to pushing the boundaries of dramatic realism and medical accuracy in following the lives of these heroic men and women.”
Added head of Max original programming Sarah Aubrey: “Collaborating with the visionary talents of John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill and Noah Wyle to develop this new series has already been an exhilarating process. Their passion, creativity, and dedication to storytelling elevate every aspect of the project, and together, we’re poised to deliver a compelling and authentic portrayal of today’s medical world that will captivate audiences and leave a lasting impact.”
Wyle is best known for his starring role as Dr. John Carter on the classic NBC medical drama ER, which ran for 15 seasons and ended in 2009. Wyle stayed with the show as a series regular through Season 11, guest-starred in Season 12, then returned to close out the series with a multi-episode arc. All 331 episodes are streaming on Max and Hulu.
Since ER, Wyle has headlined TNT’s Falling Skies, CBS’ The Red Line and Prime Video’s Leverage: Redemption. He also recurred on TNT’s The Librarians, reprising his role as Flynn Carsen. No word yet if he’ll be back for The CW’s forthcoming offshoot, The Librarians: The Next Chapter.
15 episodes? On Max? Are you sure?
I hope this doesn’t mean he won’t be back for the next season of Leverage: Redemption.
I think they’re already deep into filming that so he should be around for season 3. Honestly, as much as I love that show, it feels like it has a budget of $20, so he probably needs this other gig to provide for his family lol
I doubt he needs to work at all since he’s making tons off his ER residuals. I think he just likes to work.
I feel like they should just do a series with Carter as the Chief of Staff of a smaller hospital and he has to face the challenges of today with limited resources and learning that his money cannot solve all its problems. You get the ER brand but from a different angle and you get to see John Carter throwing his passion into a new arena. Win-win.
Just name it ER and set it at County General please!
I am in just as long as he doesn’t get…
🔪 🔪 🔪
Again.
Also, I was in love with him when I was like 14.
OMG! 15 episodes. An actual TV show. Not a 6-8 part long film, stretched out into a mini season. Thank God.
It should be John Carter, 19 years later.
I stream on MAX Can’t wait for THE PITT.
Noah while was beloved
O. ER and the Librarian.
Cannot wait for the next adventure.
I loved ER and especially Noah Wyle as Carter!
Happy to see him come back to a medical atmosphere 👍🏻👍🏻
It would be awesome if some ER cast members made little appearances as patients or something. Or The Pitt should cast Hallee Hirsh as one of the docs.
I was thinking about this show recently and thought it would be so much better if they made it a revival of ER. Eric LaSalle could now be running the hospital and he calls Carter to run the ER. And Rachel is working there following in her fathers legacy. Cameos from key people from the original could be placed throughout. Either way, The Pitt sounds great and I’ll definitely watch.
