In the latest TV show ratings, ABC’s share of the Monday Night Football match-up between the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks averaged 8.3 million total viewers, down 10% week-to-week in audience — which I assume “flex scheduling” is meant to avoid…?
Opposite ye olde pigskin (are we still allowed to say “pigskin”?):
NBC | The Voice delivered a three-week high in audience (6.3 million total viewers) but dipped a tenth in the demo, to a 0.4 rating. Password‘s holiday special drew 3 mil and a 0.2, down sharply from any of the revival’s solid summer 2022 numbers.
CBS | Leading out of The Price Is Right at Night (3.4 mil/0.3), Big Brother Reindeer Games unwrapped its second-largest audience to date (1.7 mil) while delivering its third 0.3 demo rating in four outings.
FOX | LEGO Masters‘ double-episode “Holiday Bricktacular” drew 830K/0.2 and then 625K/0.2.
THE CW | Freddy Mercury: The Final Act drew 490,000 viewers.

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. This is only an exhibition, this is not a competition. Please, no wagering.
Unfortunately, the NBC channels in my area have been off-air for weeks due to carriage disputes otherwise I would have watched it last night.
Same in my area as well. The station owners are telling us without the signal on our providers to “switch.” My confidence in the situation being resolved anytime soon is low…
Fox ratings are heading toward CW levels at an alarming speed.
You mean Password was all new. I thought NBC would just run the same six episodes forever, any time a hole in the schedule appeared.
Beside tough competition, “Password” changed too many of its rules of how the game is played. The non-gameshow people producing the show have added so much unnecessary elements – they’ve taken a wonderfully simple format and have complicated it!
Wonder about tune-out!?
Bob Stewart is spinning in his grave!
Nothing has really been “added.” The tiebreaker is a version of the Password Puzzle from Password Plus and Super Password. The bonus round is a version of Alphabetics from those shows, which itself was a retooling of the Lightning Round from the 1960s series. The redemption word is a version of the old “betting word” and (sort of) the SP Cashword.
And “shoot the moon” isn’t much different from when the options were “pass, play or double” in one of the 70’s versions. (They played to 50 points with that change, and passwords counted down from 10 points. When starting at 6 and playing to 15, a 2-point bonus seems comparable.)
If anything, Stewart, Goodson, and Todman would be proud of how they incorporated all those elements.
The only real difference, which I don’t like, is Fallon and the others constantly whooping the audience up. But TV in the 2020s is different from the 60s, 70s and 80s, so we can’t reasonably expect a cloned reproduction of the older shows. (And it’s a damn sight better than Million Dollar Password, which not even Regis could save.)
But Jell-O, being two words, should have been ruled as an illegal clue.
Jello is in the dictionary.
Noun 1. jello – fruit-flavored dessert (trade mark Jell-O) made from a commercially prepared gelatin powder
Then it’s a more recent addition. It was always disallowed previously.
Does everyone on “Password”–including the audience–do a pound of cocaine before taping begins? So much jumping around and screaming, plus Palmer doing her best Mantan Moreland impression. And celebrities who haven’t even heard of half the words. If anyone’s spinning in their grave, it’s Allen Ludden.
Jimmy definitely does, he’s very fond of…. skiing.
I feel like Jimmy produces all these shows as an excuse to be in them. Like can’t he have others host/play? He’s not as funny as he thinks he is.
Not to mention the unfair advantage of playing every week. The other celebs have to work twice as hard to win a game.
Loved the Password Christmas episode. Ms. Palmer is one of the best hosts on tv. Meagan Trainor was a pure joy!! John Cryer was his usual excellence. Always find myself playing along.
OMG, who watches this drivel? This is what passes as entertainment these days? Thank god for the streamers! And Jimmy Fallon should totally totally totally disappear. What a waste of skin.
