It’s the end of an era for The Price Is Right.
After taping at Los Angeles’ famed Television City compound since its premiere in 1972, the classic CBS game show will relocate to a new facility next season.
Per Deadline, a looming $1.25 billion renovation at Television City will force TPIR to move to Haven Studios in nearby-ish Glendale when it begins production on Season 52 later this summer.
“In light of Hackman Capital Partners’ plans to undergo a major renovation at Television City, the time has come to move television’s longest running game show, The Price Is Right, into a new home,” said Suzanne Lopez, COO of Fremantle (which produces TPIR), in a statement. “While we bid a fond farewell to this cultural landmark, we are excited to say that we will be moving into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility at Haven Studios. We can’t wait to have our fans ‘Come On Down’ to this new facility when we begin production on the next season this summer.”
The Price is Right launched with OG host Bob Barker on Sept. 4, 1972. Barker passed the emcee baton to current headliner Drew Carey in 2007.
Other series that currently shoot at Television City include CBS soaps The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, CBS’ soon-to-conclude Late Late Show with James Corden, ABC’s American Idol and Disney+’s Dancing With the Stars.
I really enjoy TPIR at night. Didn’t think I’d be a Drew Carey fan, but I am. Very personable. Like the way he treats the contestants. Nice way to end the work day.
Counter Argument: Drew Carry is awful. He is only there for the money, and never looks like he is having fun. BB genuinely looked like he enjoyed his job, and being around the contestants.
I agree with you 100%. Bob Barker was so much better and more fun to watch. He had fun with the contestants.
I also agree. At first, I thought I’d like Drew Carey on TPIR, but he doesn’t seem to like the contestants, and it sometimes seems like he’s irritated by them, and like he’s anxious to get the show over with. Also, that beard looks awful on him.
He sure did…
Especially the young, pretty, female brick houses. and are we forgetting the number of models and others who were dismissed when they accused him of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment and stuff like that?
Drew may be flat sometimes, but at least he makes sure the contestants are the true stars of the show and, by all accounts, treats everyone on stage and behind the scenes with the utmost respect. he wouldn’t have been my first choice as host back in 07 (I personally would’ve loved to have seen Todd Newton get the job back then,) but he did find his groove after a few years. Plus, it’s nice to finally see games and prizes that aren’t incredibly out of date; seriously, who used or even wanted popcorn carts and/or grandfather clocks in the 21st century? Although I have always been a loyal viewer, the show grew progressively more stale during Bob’s last few years as host, not to mention it was very offputting to listen to him rushing/getting cranky/impatient with contestants.
Bob Barker used to run away from contestants!
I read an article that the $500. In contestants row when get the correct price, comes directly from Drew Carey’s Wallet. TPIR doesn’t give that incentive.
Wrong! That is money provided by TPIR. When Barker was the Host it was only $100.
No, that bonus was upped to $500 sometime in the late ’90s. So Bob Barker did give away $500 bonuses towards the end of his tenure.
I have NEVER seen any behavior to warrant this comment.
He is always having fun.
I agree 👍
I watch clips (since I can’t stand him as a host), and I look for the fun ones. It’s night and day, the tone, the way he presents himself is someone who really is just doing it for the money. You can tell when a persons smile is fake, and he is almost always faking it. DC is awful, and I wish they would replace him.
I agree! They should have picked John O’Hurly for the job, he is a very witty guy!
I agree! They should have chosen John O’Hurly for the job, he is truly a very witty guy!
Completely agree.
I think he is SO nice to people and seems to have a blast!
LOVE Drew.
Drew is a great host
So what will they say instead of “From the Famous Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood”?
Who cares what they say?
Middle America thinks MOST of California is Hollywood…sooooo, all good. LOL.
I hope you meant $1.25 Billion, ’cause $1.25 Million won’t even cover the hairspray budget for TPiR’s neighbor The Young and the Restless.
The way this made me cackle
😂😂😂
Drew Carey, Please keep your hair neat and off your collar. It looks so much better. Also, can you get rid of those tacky white shoes? With a suit, they don’t look good. Whatever happened to your ties? You looked so good when you first started.
The author of this article seems to forget that the original version of TPIR was broadcast on NBC from 1956 to 1963 before moving to ABC in 1964 until it ended in 1965.
The author of this article is only referring to the current incarnation of TPIR.
It’s only about a 10-mile distance between Television City and Glendale, but one of the worst routes in terms of traffic. If you’re a staffer who lives near the current studios, the commute at rush hour will be close to an hour each way. (But that’s what happens when you work in L.A.)
I don’t know at this point whether this relocation will be permanent or if The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal will just move back to Television City once its renovation/expansion is complete. Also, I’ve never heard of this new “Haven Studios” facility or where it is on Google Maps.
That’s great moving to a brand new place. But DWTS should go back to Channel 6 and not on Disney. since they moved i haven’t watch it that and get rid of the hostess she’s one big mess. Bring back the old hosts. They were in tune with stars and all the dancers. This girl or shim is a disaster. won’t watch as long as she is there.
Umm, wrong show and different network…
I do agree about the DWTS host and being only online. I haven’t watched it in years even though I have Disney plus streaming.
I totally agree with you.
Tom Bergeron was the best host for DWTS .
Brooke Burke was great as his co-host.
They should make things right and bring them both back to the show.
As for Drew Carey , he’s great as the host of The Price is Right.
I still enjoy watching reruns of the Drew Carey show.
What the heck is going on with syndication? I am retired and am losing some of my fav daytime shows
The show isn’t being cancelled. The set where they film is being moved. But, daytime TV is suffering from streaming services and fewer people at home during daytime hours.
Bob Barker was not the original host for The Price Is Right, Bill Cullen was back in the 60’s.
I remember the first time when it was called Truth or consequences and then it moved to Price is Right Bob Barker was the legend and is a legend of the prices right no one could ever feel his shoes he is missed but never forgotten he is the face of Price is Right and OG much respect to him. I’m a long time fan of the legendary game show. My name is Charles olivera from Banning California 30 minutes west of Palm springs
TPIR was NEVER called Truth or Consequences. That was an entirely different show, which originated in radio. Bill Cullen hosted a very dull Price is Right in 1962 (not his fault) and when the show returned initially, it was called The New Price is Right on CBS.
I vaguely remember Truth or Consequences as a little kid, but it was NOT the same show as the Price is Right. They were both hosted by Bob Barker with the Price is Right being the show he was on for years. I had no idea there was another host before Bob as he was the only host I saw on the show.
Correction, Bob Barker was the only host I saw on the Price is Right.
The Price is Right is now the hardest game show ever on daytime TV as does in primetime.
I really enjoy the price is right it is my favorite game show in the world. I watch it every day and when it’s not on I am sad I really love Bob Barker but I really love Drew Carey too I’m sad to hear that they have to move to a different studio but as long as it’s on something that I can watch it I’ll be OK. I hope it never goes off the air because I love that show and I look forward to watching it every day
Haven Studio will be the place where game shows go to die. R.I.P. The Price is Right.
I look forward to the game show every morning, turned it on this morning. April 15th, 2023 it was gone. I got so upset
Please put it back 🙏
Bob Barker will always be the true Price is Right. I try watching from time to time and can’t stand it for more than 15 minutes. Drew will never compare to the legendary Bob Barker
Love the show. Drew Carey does a fabulous job. Love the show and hopefully the move doesn’t mean the show will soon be ending.
We watch it every day. I can’t believe it won’t be on channel 2. But would like to know what channel it will be on. Hopefully channel5
STOP MESSING WITH TV!!!! WE NEED MORE OF THE OLD SHOWS!!!!!! WE NEED FAMILY SHOWS TO KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER!! NOT ALL THESE REALITY SHOWS!! PREGNANT AT 13 IS THE WORST THING YA’LL PUT IN PUBLIC VIEW!! GET REAL!!
What’s going to happen to the Old Location?
Is it getting Torn Down?
What exactly is happening to Studio 33 that requires every show that was filmed there to move to a brand new studio?!!
For them to move Price is Right out of the Bob Barker studio after 51 years is just a crime. Guess history means nothi g to the new people in charge. Sad sad state of affairs. And by the way Drew has turned into a wonderful host. Kind and personable and fun. Love him.
I in joy watching the price is right .
Best show ever and drew being the best host ever.
They didn’t want to move but with the renovations being done they didn’t have a choice. I think the move is permanent or it wouldn’t be all over the news.
I think Drew is doing ok but not great. There wouldn’t be anyone who could replace Barker but I don’t know if he is really interested in being host.
I hope they bring back full crowds in the new studio, as the pandemic is over now. I wasn’t a fan of the small crowds.
Why is there still only a partial audience. The time has come to fill the studio again. Pandemic has been over for awhile. Ridiculous.
