The Talk is about to get a little more country: Less than one month after series creator Sara Gilbert announced her departure, the CBS chatfest has found her permanent replacement in Marie Osmond.
Osmond is no stranger to The Talk. Since 2013, she has served as a guest panelist nearly 40 times. She’ll officially join co-hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve and Carrie Ann Inaba when Season 10 begins in September.
“It is such a joy for me to be joining The Talk in September. After guest co-hosting and appearing as a guest on the show throughout the years, I am thrilled to now call this my day job,” Osmond said in a statement. “I look forward to working with Sharon, Sheryl, Eve and Carrie Ann, who are such smart, strong, talented women whom I immensely respect. I cannot wait to share this exciting new chapter with the viewers and the CBS family.”
“If you’ve seen Marie Osmond guest-host on The Talk over the past nine seasons, you know she’s the perfect addition to the show,” added Angelica McDaniel, executive vice president of daytime programs at CBS. “Marie’s impressive career accomplishments have endeared her to fans throughout the decades. Her willingness to be authentic and share personal triumphs and struggles with honesty in the hopes of helping others always resonates. I’m excited to kick off Season 10 with the multitalented, dynamic Marie at the Talk table.”
On April 9, Gilbert, who is also the star and executive producer of ABC’s The Conners, revealed that she was leaving at the end of The Talk‘s current ninth season. At the time, she admitted that it was difficult to devote herself to two TV shows and raise a family. “Last [fall], I did The Conners and was also producing and [hosting] here,” she said. “I loved it and felt totally empowered, but also, if I’m being honest about it, my life was slightly out of balance. I wasn’t able to spend as much time with my three kids as I’d like, or take time for myself.”
Osmond’s hire marks the sixth major change at the dais in less than two years. Prior to Gilbert’s exit, the series lost longtime panelists Aisha Tyler (who was replaced by Eve) and Julie Chen Moonves (who was succeeded by Inaba). With Gilbert gone, Osbourne will be the last original co-host left standing.
In addition to picking up The Talk for Season 10, CBS recently handed out renewals for the rest of its daytime slate, including soap operas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, and game shows The Price Is Right and Let’s Make a Deal.
Are you happy with Osmond’s hire? Or do you think The Talk should have gone in another direction? Hit the comments with your reactions!
This May be a dumb question, but is Sara Gilbert staying onboard as a producer and just stepping away as a day-to-day host? Or is she leaving completely
I hope it’s the latter. Since Julie Chen left, Sara’s been taking the show far too political.
I also feel that the knife that Sara put in Roseanne’s back is the same one she got Julie with.
Marie will make this show fun to watch again.
What on earth are you talking about? Roseanne has no one to blame but herself and as for Julie, in no way would she have stayed with what was going on with her husband. She can easily keep her job on Big Brother but no way could she on an opinion based show.
Roseanne was the holder of the knife in her own back.
What politics? I yearn for politics from this show. There hasn’t been any. I wonder what you’ve been watching.
yep. Sara’s knife in Roseanne’s back is the reason I never watched the show, after Roseanne was forced out. I feel everyone in that show stepped all over Roseanne.
Yeah, she’s the victim…just like Trump.
The View has gone a little bit country. I’ve been to one of her concerts. She’s not country at all. And she won’t get me to watch this show. These talk shows need to go.
Why? Just because you don’t like them? Watch the soaps they’re trashy enough for you.
Ralphie. FYI, I don’t watch either. And you don’t make any sense. Soaps are trashy enough?? What about the talk shows? So is that all you have to do all day is watch talk shows ¿
The View and The Talk are different shows.
😉
Libby. Sorry I really messed up there didn’t I! Oops.
Is Marie still going to do the Vegas act with her brother Donnie? I feel she will bring new humpf to the somewhat stale show.
Her Vegas act was cancelled! She’ll be joining The Talk in September. Now Donnie needs to find another job since they were in Vegas together.
The Vegas show wasn’t cancelled. They chose to end their residency.
I don’t care for this show personally, but I have seen both Marie and Carnie Wilson guest host and, to be honest, they came across better than the regular hosts. So, why not…
I would have preferred Carnie over Marie. Carnie is more down to earth making her way more relatable.
Just cancel this garbage.
Different strokes for different folks. I watch occasionally depending on who they have on as guest. Adding Marie won’t change my mind.
I’m just glad they found a place for a straight white women. They are so rare on daytime tv now.
That’s an absurd thing to say, especially now that The Talk has an exclusively heterosexual panel starting this fall. There’s no one who’s gay on The View, either, so you’re statement has absolutely no basis in fact.
are you being sarcastic???? 3 out of 5 on The View, 1 out of 2 on Hoda and Jenna, Kelly Ripa, Sharon Osborne, Judge Judy. And then pretty much everyone on the soaps
Laura, you really need to get your facts straight before you “decide” if someone is gay or not. Unless you’re privy to information the rest of us aren’t, you should keep your mouth shut.
I believe Lauara was referring to the number of straight white women each show has and her math is correct. Those women are white and happily married to men. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought Ralph was being sarcastic as well. I was wondering who would comment that The Talk no longer represents the LGBTQ community. I don’t think this replacement was a good idea. She doesn’t add anything to the show and she takes away an important perspective from an already marginalized community, but I don’t watch the show because I’m at work during the day when it is on so I am not their target audience.
Correct me if I’m wrong. But doesn’t Marie have a daughter that is a lesbian? So I think she wouldn’t be bias.
Jacquline – Tracy Theresa Sell is correct, I was referring to Ralph’s comment about not enough white women on the daytime shows. I would never speculate on someone’s sexuality publicly because I know you “can’t tell by how they look”. I have straight friends some people have assumed are gay and gay friends who people can’t believe are gay.
And I will not take offense to your suggestion I keep my mouth shut because I can see how you could misinterpret which of the comments I was referring to. I will be more careful in the future to include the commenter’s name.
She is ok, but to goodie stop talking about ur 8 kids like they were still 3 yrs old. Keep ur personal life personal. Donny doesn’t go on and on about his 5 sons. If she stays on topic and not turn it on herself. It will be a good choice.
Hopefully she can read a Teleprompter better then Gilbert and the rest of them. I used to hate when Chen went on vacation because the rest of them are terrible at it. Carrie Ann is a little better then the rest at least but still not great. It would seem like a small thing and anyone can read but I guess there really is more to it because it drives me nuts on this show since Chen left. We all know they’re reading it off a prompter but there’s a way to sound natural and like you’re not reading it.
Absolutely Love Marie, I am so glad she there, now if we could get rid of Eve and Carrie-ann and maybe put a couple of men there the show would be awesome….Nothing against Eve, I just don’t think she fits and Carrie-Ann is way to personal about her relationships and repetitive about them …..
If a man can be a guest host that would be good, two even better! One in their 30’s/40’s and the other 50’s/60’s. Let the hens have a rooster(s) to spice up the panel. Forget about Marie she is too “cutesy”.
Not to sound rude but she’s is too old, and I am not being ageist. But 4 of the co hosts are in their 50’s & 60’s, if you want younger viewers you need to have a few younger hosts, Eve is 40 but I think someone else in their 30’s or all you are going to attract is older people, the view has a good variety, 70’s, 60’s 50’s and 2 in their early 30’s.
I don’t think they’re looking for younger viewers. CBS knows its daytime audience, and young isn’t in their demo right across the board.
This is a hard pass.
Can someone ban RALPH from this page?
Super, I love her! I’ll miss Sara, but Marie is a good fit.
I might watch The Talk now. She is the only genuine person left in the entertainment industry, next to her brothers. I am actually getting excited to see her on the show.
Marie Osmond certainly has her audience! But as a replacement for Sara Gilbert? Not exactly the same audience, wouldn’t you say?
I love Sara and what she brings to the table. Her perspective as a young intelligent woman, an extremely honest woman, a gay woman, a tiny woman (in stature only), and the show’s producer are all things I tune in for. She adds a different perspective from the other woman at the table. I will miss her!
But Marie Osmond? What does she bring to the table? I’m not trying to bad mouth Marie. I’m just saying that to me there is nothing about her that seems real. (In my opinion, she wears too much make-up and too much hair.)
And I just don’t have any interest in listening to her opinion on anything. (Except maybe her weight loss). I’m sure she is a nice person and has her place in the entertainment world. I just think she seems like the wrong replacement for Sara, of all people.
However, if it were Gwen Stefani, who wears a lot of make-up and hair, I would be celebrating! So it is not just that. Marie just doesn’t feeI like tje right fit. What can I say? I just think you are going to lose a lot of your audience. Or, at least you are going to lose me.
I feel that The Talk should have taken a different route. Marie Osmond is not a good fit and nor
is Inaba. My personal is that they seem so fake for such a serious and great TV setting !
A serious setting?? You CANNOT be serious!
I’m retired and keep myself busy most of the time so I don’t tune in regularly. The days I am here just wanting some background noise for my day, I have enjoyed tuning in to The Talk. I really liked Sara Gilbert. She was good at getting her cohorts back on topic if needed. Nothing against Marie, but I really got tired of her years ago and while I didn’t mind hearing her occasionally as a guest on the show, I’m not especially looking forward to having her be on routinely.
Marie was the wrong choice
I really hate to see Sarah go however family comes before all. Osborn was not whom I expected there were more frequent candidates however I give everyone a chance and hope she does well.
