TelevisaUnivision’s streaming platform ViX is firing up six new original shows during the first quarter of the year, including a comedy feature with Spain’s The Mediapro Studio.
“From hilarious comedies to impactful reality shows and docuseries, the new ViX Originals exhibits the diversity of genres and storytelling that can only be found on ViX,” said Rodrigo Mazon, executive VP & chief content officer for ViX at TelevisaUnivision.
In a nod to its creative partners, Mazon added: “At ViX, audiences can find content for everyone, consistently maintaining a high standard of quality made by the best content creators of today.”
According to TelevisaUnivision’s 2023 4th Quarter report, the Spanish-language streaming service ended the year with more than 7 million subscribers and generated more than $700 million in revenue.

However, like most other streaming platforms facing competitive headwinds and higher costs, production budgets per episode are being trimmed at ViX, according to sources. In contrast to 11 new original shows announced in early 2023, this year has six to date but more are expected.
Launched in 2022 after the merger of Mexico’s Televisa and U.S. Hispanic Network Univision, ViX offers two levels of access, one free with ads and the other a subscription fee-based premium option. The service boasts more than 75,000 hours of on-demand content, both originals and library content from the media giants’ respective programming vaults, as well as 7,000 hours of live sports, including Liga MX and UEFA Champion’s League soccer.

“Intecambiadas,” A body-swapping comedy, a genre that probably started with the 1976 classic “Freaky Friday.” In this tale, nine-year-old Sebastian, after a fight with his mother, wishes that the maid Lupe was his mother instead. His wish comes true and the body swap will present challenges and life lessons to both women, one a high-flying marketing executive and the other a domestic worker with low self-esteem. “Mi casa no es tu casa,” Andres and Mia’s relationship is close to perfect except that Mia has two young sons who don’t approve of her boyfriend. The situation grows more fraught when Andres moves in and the boys go to great lengths to get rid of him. Production: Nectar Films, Marvista, Cimarron. Cast: Ana Claudia Talancón, David Chocarro, Andrés Almeida, Tato Alexander, Checo Perezcuadra and Juanpi Monterrubio.
Reality Shows:
“Chiquis Unfiltered,” Musical artist Chiquis bares all in a revealing docuseries, sharing her past struggles and triumphs. From her LA home to her U.S. and Mexico tour, we witness her unfiltered journey, including family dynamics and career highs. The series culminates in her wedding preparations and achieving personal and professional milestones. Production: JK Media Group and Busy Bee Productions.
“Mi Mundo,” The series offers a rare glimpse into the unexplored realm of regional Mexican music, a genre dominating global charts and bridging cultures across the U.S.-Mexico border. It delves into the off-stage lives, creative processes, and behind-the-scenes careers of key figures, shaping history and expanding into fresh markets. Production: Alton River and Plataforma. Guests: Banda MS, Eslabón Armado, Angela Aguilar, among others to be announced.
Documentaries:
“Laura Bozzo: From Hell to Stardom” is a ViX Original documentary offering exclusive access to the controversial TV host’s private life, scandals, successes, and failures. With intimate moments, archival footage, and insights into her relationships and ties to power and fame, this production provides a revealing glimpse into Bozzo’s journey. Production: Trailer Films.
“Toros Neza,” Sports docuseries follows Toros Neza, a ‘90s Mexican soccer team that defied the odds, capturing the nation’s affection with their cheeky, rebellious style. Known for their rainbow hair and unconventional attire, they either dominated or suffered heavy losses on the field, embodying a spirit of revolution. Despite never winning a title, they left an enduring legacy, featuring legends like Miguel “Piojo” Herrera, Rodrigo “Pony” Ruiz, Enrique “Ojitos” Meza, Nidelson Silva de Melo and Federico Lussenhoff.
