The Young and the Restless to Days of Our Lives: We’ll see your one-season renewal and raise you three.
On the heels of Days‘ official pickup at NBC, CBS has renewed fellow sudser Y&R for four — count ’em, four — more seasons. The blockbuster deal ensures that daytime’s No. 1 soap will be around through (at least) the 2023-24 TV season.
There’s also good news for fans of CBS’ other soap, The Bold and the Beautiful. An Eye insider tells TVLine that B&B is already in the midst of a three-season renewal pact that will keep it on the air through the 2021-22 TV season.
The 48-year-old Y&R has maintained its position as No. 1 soap for 33 years running. The past season marked cast member Melody Thomas Scott’s 40th year with the show. Her leading man, Eric Braeden, will mark the same milestone next month. B&B, meanwhile, recently marked its 33rd anniversary.
“Having the No. 1 show for any length of time in any daypart is a tremendous accomplishment,” declared CBS president Kelly Kahl,in a statement. “But The Young and the Restless has been daytime’s top drama for over three decades. The last time any other show was on top, Ronald Reagan was president, and the Berlin Wall was still standing. It’s a remarkable achievement and a testament to the extraordinary cast, gifted writers, talented producers and supremely passionate fans, as well as our tremendous partnership with [Y&R‘s studio] Sony Pictures Television.”
Unlike Y&R, B&B and Days, daytime’s fourth and final soap, ABC’s General Hospital, is not on a traditional renewal cycle.
Maybe this commitment by CBS means that they’ll be changes at the top, to stop y&r from being such a snooze fest!
If it’s four more seasons of the same mess they’ve got currently, then idk if it’s much reason to celebrate lol.
A lot of these soap writer’s rooms need to mix seasoned vets who know the genre with new blood. Because none of the young people on the “Young” and the Restless act like the twentysomethings of today. They act like 20-somethings from the view of people who haven’t talked to anyone that age in 50 years lol that’s one out of many suggestions to inject some much needed life back into this show.
only watch GH out of the 4 but happy for the genre and the fans
That’s amazing! I really hope it’s a big show of support, and not a signal to start wrapping things up.
Y&R would be in a much better predicament than DOOL because one, it is still averaging around 3 million viewers daily. it also does pretty well on the CBS app so not surprising news.
PLEASE let this mean that they will get someone in there who knows how to write a soap opera.
I don’t watch The Young and the Restless. But I remember Eric Braeden when he was cutting a wide swathe in the WWII drama, Rat Patrol. He looked just as good in battle fatigues as he does in expensive suits!
It is so boring right now it’s nearly not watchable. There isn’t one store that I am interested in. I mean Sharon’s cancer story is decent because Sharon Case is a wonderful actress.
Yea. So happy to hear about this four year commitment. Love the show. Never miss an episode.
I LOVE Y&R. I have watched every episode from age 19- I’m now 47yr old. I have laughed and cried with this damn soap, and I appreciate all of it, and how hard the actors work. I do miss a few old regulars, especially Summer & Kyle kinda wondering about the new ones. Now, I LOVE each oneof those. So HAPPY to hear the news. CONGRATS TO THE CAST. XOXO
The Y&R has gone down hill over the last year. The story lines are getting boring and predictable. Not sure why it has changed. I find myself fast forwarding through most of it. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes to watch an episode now.
Not sure if it should have been renewed for 4 more seasons
What about Doug Davidson?
Is he going to be on as a permanent player?
CBS must be crazy too renew
The Young And The Restless for
four more years, the show is very boring
